Eczema on Hands

Amongst Eczema of different types Eczema on hands is found very commonly in most of the eczema patients. It can be quite depressing and embarrassing because not only does it make your hands unsightly, it is actually difficult to conceal because you have to use your hands to do practically everything! It is a very chronic type of skin disease that can turn dangerous and may harm you in many ways. It affects atleast 10% of the world population. The hand eczema is very common in those people who are involved with the jobs of cleaning, washing, hair dressing, catering and some mechanical works. It is not at all contagious but has some horrible effects on the lives of the people and affects their self esteem. They mostly affect the fingers, palms and the back of the hands. It starts with some mild blisters and with time they turn into severe painful and itchy blisters. The skin becomes itchy, red and dry and has the fluid filled blisters. It is very important to know about the causes of the hand eczema so that, you can be aware of all these. A weak immune system may lead to this condition. It can also occur if the circulation of the blood is hampered to any parts of the body. The people who are very sensitive to the dust, dirt and pollens are mainly affected with this hand eczema. It mostly occurs while coming in contact with the dye, fabrics, detergents, soaps, metals etc. Indigestion and eating certain types of food that are allergy prone are also the reasons for the hand eczema. It may also happen during the weather change.

There are certain types of Eczema on Hands. These are:

• Atopic Eczema: This is the most common type of hand eczema and mostly they occur in the infants. It is hereditary. The people who are suffering from this type of eczema also have hay fever and asthma. You will have a red skin, itchy skin, pain and the blisters.

• Allergic Contact Eczema: This happens when you come in contact with certain chemicals for a long period of time. It is very difficult to identify the cause.

• Irritant Contact Eczema: This occurs when you come in repeated contact with the shampoo, soaps, oils and cements. It is mostly seen in the back of the hands.

These are the common three types of hand eczema. Now it is very important to have a proper treatment to this and you have to know about the things which must be kept in mind to prevent the hand eczema. You have to use a moisturizing hand creams many times a day to keep your skin moist. You can also use the steroids if it is advised by your doctor. Avoid too much washing of the hand and use the lukewarm water. After washing immediately apply the moisturiser. Avoid the detergents and the soaps as much as possible especially if they have fragrance. Wear gloves when you are working. When you have to cook and have to cut some vegetables then apply the vegetable oil in your hands then proceed further. Use a long handled brush when you are washing the utensils. Avoid scratching the blisters. You can also wrap your hand with a cool washcloth.
